Track Extensions

Basic Cord Tracking Technique - (also called pinch weaving, micro weaving, track locking). With this method, thin tracks of hair are positioned horizontally on the scalp and reinforced with weaving threads in a lock stitch. The weave piece is then attached with weaving thread and the clients natural hair is combed to cover the tracks. This technique results in long lasting great looking extensions, however, it can place stress on the scalp and hair if not done properly.

Cornrow Track Extensions

This is the oldest and most widely used weaving technique. The technique is the same as with tracking only cornrow braids are used.

We have a wide and beautiful range of clip in hair extensions produced in a variety of natural colours that will blend perfectly with your hair. Clip in hair extensions are temporary, interchangeable hair extensions that you can "clip on" to your natural hair. The advantages of using clip in extensions as opposed to professionally applied hair extensions are that you can play around with different colours and looks without the need for professional application. Professionally applied hair extensions are semi-permanent - lasting for approximately three months - and as such cannot be interchanged with ease. Clip in hair extensions are a lot less expensive than professionally applied extensions, so you can experiment with new styles and colours at much less cost. Clip in extensions are washable

Due to the clip in extensions' high quality and durability you can wash and wear them. Keeping your hair extensions clean and well maintained is of course important and you can do this much the same as you would do with your normal hair. However, while performing any cleaning or straightening on your extensions do not do so with them attached to your hair - your clip ons are attached to much less of your hair than are the professional ones so the hair is carrying more weight and could be damaged by additional strain. The easy solution to this is to get a friend to hold them up, or pin them up, as you wash or straighten your hair, do this just as you would with your normal hair using shampoo and conditioner, or if straightening a pair of straightening irons or blow drying while using a round brush.

Styling and cutting extensions

Clip in extensions can also be cut and styled if you want, however it's advisable that you visit a professional hairdresser to cut your extensions for you. A final tip for looking after your clip in extensions is to ensure you always take them out before you go to bed, the clips attached to your hair extensions are not designed to withstand the pulling and pushing that your hair goes through while you sleep and they can also be quite uncomfortable.

This Technique is more traditional and well known and it is one of the older methods. It requires 100% pre tipped human hair that is attached with a heating implement that melts the keratin bonding agent. The hair extension is then is then rolled on to the clients hair strand. Looks very natural.

The individual extension application consists of a gentle attachment which Is composed of a flexible keratin. Keratin is the natural protein your hair consists of. When this method is applied by a certified professional properly, and properly cared for through instructions from the extensions specialist, your own natural hair will not be compromised. With these extensions there is no messy damaging glue involved. Hair is attached 1/4" to 1/2" from the scalp (so you must have at least 1.5 inches of your own healthy hair) using a safe-for-hair KERATIN PROTEIN BOND matched to your hair color. They are virtually undetectable to the naked eye!

The top piece of natural human hair is hand tied in a factory to give you the natural effect/look of it being your own hair growing out of your scalp. It is made of Remy Human Hair with the cuticles running in the same direction as your own. Partial Hair Piece prices depend upon length, style, and quality of the natural human hair. The price of the partial hair piece does not include application. Recommended: for women that have thinning hair or hair loss.

They were experiencing thinning hair on the top of their heads, so we applied a partial hair piece (a partial hair piece can be described as a portion of a full women's wig--typically just about double the size of the palm of your hand). The partial hair pieces are sewn onto a braid made of the client's hair--this keeps the hair piece in place for approximately 4-6 weeks.
In addition to a partial hair piece, some clients also like the addition of hair wefts (described under "Hair and Hair Care Products). Hair wefts are strands of hair that can also be sewn onto a client's braided hair just below the level of the partial hair piece. This also gives more body to the hair and gives the appearance that the client has more natural hair.

Toupees or hair pieces can be defined as the partial hairpiece used to cover bald patches. They are usually used by men experiencing baldness and are rarely used by women because the gals generally prefer alternative hair replacements such as extensions or full wigs. Custom made toupees are also available for a more tailored and natural appearance. They can be applied in a variety of ways: with the use of adhesives such as glue or tape and depending on the hairpiece; they can also be woven into the user's natural hair to camouflage mild hair loss. Hair pieces for men are are a cost saving alternative to permanent hair replacement options such as surgery. Hair pieces can range in style and prices are from $300-$1000.

• Where do the hair extensions come from?
  Celebrity Hair Extensions only uses 100% quality Remy human hair extensions.  The hair comes from several countries--some of which are:  Russia, other parts of Europe, India, Korea, China, etc.

• Are hair extensions safe for my own hair?  Will the extensions damage my hair?
  If the hair extensions are applied to your own hair correctly, there will be no damage to your own hair.  Damage to your hair is when a stylist who is not certified to apply extensions, is not experienced to apply extensions, or is just simply lazy in applying extensions.
  Be sure that the extension specialist knows the proper type of application method to use for your hair--for thick, thin, fine, short, long hair, there are different methods that would work best for your own hair and ensure no damage/breakage to your own hair will occur.
  Just like any significant purchase, you must ask questions:  how experienced is the extension stylist, the quality of natural human hair used, how to properly care for your hair after application, etc.......ask, ask, and ask some more.  Be sure you are utilizing the services of an experienced and competent stylist to take care of you and your hair.

• How long can my extensions be,  if I want long hair?
  You can have as long hair as you want up to 28 inches.  Anything longer than 28 inches puts unhealthy weight on your scalp and can damage your own hair. The best looking long hair extension length is 22 inches or a bit less. Our most popular hair extension length is 18 inches. 
  

• Hey, I'm a guy and I want hair extensions to have longer hair. Can this be done?
  Absolutely!!  If your hair is not too thin, we can definitely apply extensions--just like we would for women.  Some men suit longer hair, and if this is what you'd like to have, we can make it happen.  If through our consultation, prior to application of hair extensions, it is determined that your hair is too thin for just the extensions, we have other options, such as partial hair pieces that may work and achieve the same result you are looking for.

• Can I style my hair using a heated hair straightener, or curler?
  Yes.  We use only the finest quality grade A+++ 100% Remy Human Hair.  You can style your human hair extensions as you would your own hair.  For further information on this, please see our "Before Purchase and After Care" section of our website to ensure longevity of your extensions.  Also see our section "Know your Hair" that talks about Human and Synthetic hair.
  
• Is "glue" used to attach hair extensions when using the Bonding Method?
  No!.  Definitely Not!  A specially designed bonding agent which is a Keratin Wax base used only for bonding hair extensions to a client's hair.  This bonding agent does not damage your hair, or your extensions when applied properly by a stylist experienced and licensed to apply extensions by this method.
• Can I have the extensions permed or straightened?
  As the hair we use is 100% natural human hair, you can treat it as you would your own... HOWEVER! You must remember that ALL hair extensions go through an intensive treatment process before reaching you, and perming or straightening your extensions once applied will be damaging to the extensions as well as your own hair.  At Celebrity Hair Extensions we have in stock, or can special order for you--curly, wavy, or very straight extensions to your desire.  It is recommended you get the style of hair that is already prepared to your liking instead of perming or straightening them.
• Can I colour my extensions?
  We recommend that the colouring be done by a professional stylist experienced and licensed in hair extensions.   Typically, "off the shelf" colouring agents at the local pharmacy or department store are very damaging to hair extensions.  Professional stylists experienced & licensed to apply hair extensions will have the specific type of colouring agent to colour your extensions.
• Are there people who should NOT have hair extensions applied?
  YES - If you suffer alopecia, psoriasis, or other hair/scalp disorders, or are on any current medication or undergoing medical treatment detrimental to your scalp health and/or hair growth.  Also, you should think twice about hair extensions if you do not have the time or the inclination to spend time on your hair.  If you’re unsure whether you are a good candidate for hair extensions, give us a call and come in for a free consultation. 
• Why have I been told by other salons that my hair extensions can last 6 - 12 months without any moving up or re-application?
  Celebrity Hair Extensions cannot comment on why you may have been given this information.  However we will say this:  We DO NOT tell our clients unthruths to get a sale. Different qualities of hair extensions will last longer than others however all hair extensions will require moving up at regular intervals generally anywhere between 8 and 16 weeks depending on quality and hair growth.  We tell all of our clients the truth about their hair extensions to get the utmost quality and longevity.  We advise our clients on home care to ensure the client gets the most time out of the extensions.  We use only 100% A+++ Grade Remy Human Hair which MUST be re-applied (by re-using your extensions if they are in good condition) every 2 - 4 months to ensure no damage occurs to your hair or the extensions and to give your extensions that natural look and beautiful feel.  If you were to leave 100% Remy Human hair extensions in your hair for 6 - 12 months without moving up or re-applying, the bonds would certainly move down with your hair growth and become difficult to handle, style.  They would easily knot-up, not look natural, and would almost certainly result in damage to your own hair.  Also, as the hair extensions have been extensively processed prior to applying to your hair, with or without costly regular treatments, the quality of the extension would almost certainly deteriorate, leaving you with lack-luster, split ends and dry, frizzy hair extensions. (Note:  longevity of Synthetic Hair extensions will be much less--See the Know Your Hair section of our website).
• Why do hair extension prices vary so much from one hair salon to the next?
  There are several reasons for this:
  • Technique used to apply the extensions (keratin bonding, weave-in, Eurolock, etc....)--some methods are more labour intensive than others.
  • Where you are having your extensions applied - is the salon a high end salon with high overhead? Is the salon a modestly run with great stylists?  Salon overhead can play a part in the cost of extensions. At Celebrity Hair Extensions, we operate a small modern and comfortable salon, keeping our over-head costs down which means we can pass those savings onto our clients. Our priority is to provide competitive prices for the highest quality hair extensions in Calgary, ensuring our clients remain satisfied, happy, and continue to use our services for years to come.
  • The quality of hair used - Celebrity Hair Extensions uses the finest quality 100% Remy Real Human Hair.  There are many hair extensions salons that will promise you a full head of long luxurious hair extensions from around $250.00.  While the price might be great from these salons, the quality sure isn't.  The extensions you get for this type of money are not Remy quality and therefore will not have the cuticles intact or traveling in the same direction.  The hair will almost certainly tangle, matt, and look dry and frizzy within the first two weeks of application.
  • The 'type' of hair used - Celebrity Hair Extensions uses the finest quality 100% Remy Human Hair.  The extensions look and feel as natural as your own hair, only better!  Some cheaper options being advertised as just Hair Extensions are simply Synthetic hair which is less expensive than '100% Human Hair.  Do you recall the days when you played with Barbie or the doll-head you could style it's hair......well, that is Synthetic Hair and can quickly become 'stretched', 'frizzy' and look noticeably different to your own real hair.

In order for you to get the right product for your life, lifestyle, and needs, it is important for you to know the differences and the pros and cons when it comes to Natural Human Hair and Synthetic Hair.  Neither is better or worse than the other.  It is simply all in what you expect the hair to do for you, and what your expectations of the longevity of the hair are.

Advice on Hair Extensions and Hair Pieces before you purchase

• Ask about the training and experience of your stylist.
• The stylist should inquire about your lifestyle, health and hobbies etc.
• Make sure you are well informed about the method and hair quality that will be used for your extensions.
• Ask to see before and after pictures from prior clients.
• Ask how long the hair extensions will last and how much it will cost to remove them.
• Ask if the hair can be used again.
• Get a written estimate for your hair extensions.
• Discuss a maintenance plan (follow-up appointments, recommended products, tools, wash and style instructions, etc.)
• A good general rule is that hair extensions should not be longer than twice your own hair length .
• These tips are no guarantee that you will be 100% satisfied with your extensions but it will help with some issues that may occur.
• The stylist should analyze your hair to make sure your hair is in a condition for successful hair extensions 

Aftercare of your hair is very important so you can ensure continued enjoyment and little "fussing" with your hair after you leave our salon.  Below are some simple, yet, very effective measures you can implement to ensure your hair lasts as long as possible.

After Care of your Hair once you leave our Salon

Washing:
Keep your hair clean. Hair tangles when dirt and sweat build up, wash your hair after exercise, swimming etc. Brush your hair and remove all tangles before washing it. Wash your hair going in a downward motion. Use a good quality shampoo, your stylist can advise you what product is best for your hair. When lots of water is added at once to very dry hair, hair can swell up and tangle. Gradually wet the hair and brush gently before you completely wash it. This is more common with less expensive extension hair.

Styling: 
When brushing use a soft bristle brush, start at the ends of your hair and gently work your way up. Always brush in a downward motion. Do not brush harshly. Brush your hair 2 or 3 times a day. Heat is your one of your hair's biggest enemy--ongoing heat to the hair will dry it out faster and the shorter your hair extensions will last. Be careful with the use of blow dryers and curling irons. It is best to let your hair dry naturally when you can.

Exercising: 
Wear a cap when swimming or keep your hair out of the water. Chlorine and salt water can cause the hair to tangle and mat up. It is recommended to wear your hair up or in a ponytail and/or braid when you swim or exercise. 

Sleeping: 
Never sleep on wet hair, make sure your hair is completely dry before you go to bed. It is also recommended to wrap your hair together or gently tie it up to prevent tangling.

Hair care products: 
Use a good (leave-in) conditioner to keep your hair soft. Don't over do it. To much conditioner or any other hair care product can cause a build up and tangling. Avoid hair products that contain alcohol and sulfur. Alcohol and sulfur makes hair dry. Ask your stylist what would be the best products for your hair.

Hair treatments: 
Don't perm, color or any other chemical process to your own hair extensions. Some hair treatment products may damage your hair extensions or hair pieces beyond repair.  Hair extension specialists use perms, colours, and other products that are safe for extensions, wigs, and toupes.

Through various phases of our lives, our scalps go through just as many changes as the rest of our bodies go through. In some cases, scalp conditions that occur are beyond our control and desires. It is important that you make yourself aware of any possible conditions that may be treat-able. Perhaps your hair thinning or hair loss is a medical problem that may be treatable--and not just a "phase of your life" to deal with. Many skin/scalp conditions can induce (promote) hair loss.
